The Ardgay and Bonar Pipe Band in Austria 1987

Documentary I made for Moray Firth Radio in 1987 and broadcast on New Years Day 1988.

Edited on reel to reel tape a few years before digital editing became the norm.

Wonderful piece of North of Scotland history as we join a Pipe Band and their families and friends together with local singer Argo Cameron as they take part in an Austrian village music festival.

My entire life changed within two years of making this programme. We visited a nazi concentration camp and the 10 minute feature I recorded about the visit won a Sony award in 1988 for ‘the most creative use of radio’

Winning the award gave me the confidence to travel around the world producing many thousands of hours of radio from China Mongolia and Vietnam to Afghanistan Kosovo South Africa and more…….. and I owe it all to the Ardgay and Bonar Pipe Band :-)
